NATURAL BUILDING

Natural Building is the process of using a combination of clay, sand, straw, wood or other locally abundant natural materials to create highly energy efficient, durable structures with minimal environmental impact.

The owner of Timber and Earth, Jamie Weaver, works with a range of natural building techniques including: Light Straw-Clay, Hempcrete, Straw Bale, Cordwood, Natural Plasters and Earthen Floors.

Timber and Earth is excited about natural building and would love to take on projects with interested clients.  Timber and Earth can serve your natural building needs by designing & building accessory structures 200 sqft and smaller, supporting homeowner-builders with consultation and labor, or performing as a subcontractor on your residential build providing natural wall infills, plaster and earthen floors.

A note on cost: Natural Building is labor intensive. The cost of labor can make it challenging to offer affordable estimates when contracting jobs from start to finish. However, the cost of materials can be much lower than for a standard insulated and finished structure. If clients are interested in being part of the building process or wrangling volunteers, it is possible to create an inexpensive naturally built structure.
